How to extend visitor FMM in Mexico during Coronavirus

Normally, your visitor FMM card cannot be extended past the 180 day limit, and you must fly out of the country and then return to get a new FMM card. If your FMM does expire while in Mexico, and flying out, go to the immigration office at the airport and pay the overstay fine.

During COVID-19, however, you may apply for a new FMM card while in Mexico at a local immigration office. The new card will be valid for another 180 days. Wait until your current FMM expires before going to the INM office. Search for “IMN office” and find out the opening hours. Try to get there just before the opening time as some offices tend to get busy later on.
